Oil in Your Coffee
A new source of fuel production

Finally the “comeupins” has come up. The largest ethanol plant in the country has closed it’s doors. The result is that many farmers are left with expanded acreage for growing corn with no market. So the rise of food prices has maybe ended with the drop in demand for ethanol and that opens another opportunity for other more enviro-friendly fuels like – bio-diesel.

China Facing Log Shortage
Date: Vancouver, BC, February 05, 2009
Source: International WOOD MARKETS Group
The world per capita demand for life sustaining commodities like corn, beans, rice, & ereal grains is about 238 gms/person/day. The demand for wood fiber is ca. 1900 gms/person/day. In order to supply that demand for wood fiber the entire Canadian forest would have to be replaced every 10 years. Traditional wood fiber is going to be a commodity that shows every weakening supply world wide. Here you can see some of the mechanisms for that shortage as countries start to prop up pricing. Currently lumber is shipped from all over the world to China to be processed into flooring, furniture and other goods. Then shipped to the US and Europe. This pressure on wood fiber will hopefully result in a shift to the use of bamboo fiber which grows plentifully worldwide.

Post Peak Preparation Checklist

Andre is a very intelligent successful man who has studied the energy future for several years. In short he is not a person prone to emotional thinking. You may think after reading this that he wears a sandwich board running around the streets of San Francisco proclaiming the "end of the World is near". Far from the case. His message is one of preparation.
Most people want to move into emotional avoidance when hearing news they don't want to compute. "No that can't happen to me" their mind keeps telling them. Because the news is too dire for them to accept. Think Global Warming (scorching). The debate has raged for years when science has said unequivocally that it is happening and man made. Economic collapse is here. How far will it go before it stops. Andre is giving warning to be prepared. If he is wrong - so be it . We all win.

Anybody with a brain in their head knows that fuel prices are going up and up and UP! Coupled with the fact that there could be fuel shortages. Peak Oil has arrived even with all the claims of huge new oil deposit finds. If you were smart you’d buy a diesel vehicle. Yes, diesel vehicles cost more now, but they will probably be more available than gas-o-line for a couple of reasons: less refining needed; stores without its potential energy diminishing and that vehicle could be altered to use “bio-diesel for very little money.

Only in California? No this idea is taking hold all over the country. Colorado and many forward thinking state and municipalities are endorsing free power from the sun. Essentially they’re bottom line oriented. Solar energy is not about the environment it’s about cost effective electrical security.

Many people avoid numbers. They think they’re not math inclined so they go into avoidance. BUT numbers are important. Just as you need to review your budget occasionally to see if there is any adjustments necessary to stay afloat, so too are numbers necessary to get a grip on the true costs of a society.

Green Industry A Field with A Future
Green jobs, we're told, will save America.
Date: February 10, 2009

Many green jobs don’t show up on any job search engines. The mainstream job searches – Monster, Jobs, com, Ladders, CareerBuilder, etc. Search for key words, like energy, green, green building, sustainable, etc. The agents that use these searches to send you and email posing a job just for you don’t have a clue what a green job is. HERS raters, energy consultants, home audits, green mortgages & lenders, biological pest management specialists, gray water plumbers, and algae farmers are just a few of the greener jobs coming on line that aren’t classified yet. Solar and wind of course are getting a lot of play, but many green collar jobs are going to be jobs just like any other jobs working in a factory, but assembling photovoltaic arrays, or building factory homes.
